Percy visits Basil’s house and is surprised to see how much clutter the badger collects. Basil explains these things are dear to him because they remind him of his parents. However, Percy suggests that holding onto the past is also holding Basil back. Don’t let yesterday dictate today or even tomorrow. There are things in life we have to accept we can’t change and just have to run with them. Holding onto yesterday is rarely a good idea because it can stop you enjoying today.
Percy notices his friend Basil seems to have less energy, sleeps more and has started spending more time in his sett. He voices his concerns to Basil, asking if everything is ok. Basil then explains the aging process and references when his parents left. He ends with, “Don’t regret getting older. It’s a privilege denied to many”
Percy notices Basil’s health is getting worse by the day. The old badger now no longer wants take adventures and is spending much more time sleeping at home. Percy has a feeling the end might be in sight for his friend but is having difficulty accepting the inevitable truth.
